Our rescue centre has a 24-hour call-in facility, equipped with Mobile Ambulance for rescue of the urban wildlife of Bengaluru. The Rescue operations are carried out to save injured, traumatized and displaced wildlife which need immediate attention. Once rescued, the animals are treated and monitored at our wildlife hospital by a team of Veterinarians. Upon recovery the animals are rehabilitated into their natural habitats. 

The rehabilitation process also depends on the severity of the injury, the recovery period and of the species behaviour. Reptiles such as snakes require less rehabilitation procedure, while primates such as Bonnet Macaque’s have to be taught precariously, as they tend to form a bond with humans. Successful rehabilitation requires the concentrated efforts of veterinarians, and animal ethologist. Our team of experts have strived to provide the animals with wings to fly and the spirit to roam their natural territories.

PfA has so far rehabilitated various species of animals belonging to Aves, Reptiles and Mammalian classes. During the rehabilitation procedure the human interaction with the animals under treatment is kept to a minimum. In case of social creatures such as Bonnet Macaques, Parakeets and Barn Owls the primeval focus lies in socialising the animals with their own kind. The creatures have to be taught the types of food to eat. This is done by strictly adhering to the diet followed by the species in the wild. The individuals are kept in a group in a socialising unit where they relearn their natural instincts by bonding with other member of their species.

PfA rescues an average of 150 wild faunae every month. Some of the species rescued by our team are endangered, while a few others are rare and endemic to the region. We have rescued reptiles such as the spectacled cobra, Indian Rock Python, Rat Snake and the Russell’s viper. Aves frequently rescued by our team include Kites, Parakeets, Eagles, Vultures, Barn Owls, Myna, and Pea fowls. Mammals like the Bonnet Macaque, Slender Loris, Black Naped Hare, Black Buck, and Fruit Bats have been successfully rescued and rehabilitated by PfA. Nearly 75% of the rescued species have been released back into the wild.

 The rehabilitation centre at People for Animals aims to re-integrate displaced, injured and orphan wild animals to their natural habitats. Rehabilitation forms an important aspect of successful treatment and release of recovered animals. The objective of the process is to equip animals with the ability to survive in the wild without the need of human aid. 

 Rehabilitation forms the crucial step that redeems our acts of cruelty on the animal kind. The true abode of the species is away from our concrete inhabitation, to which the animals have adapted after a prolonged evolutionary period.
